Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This was an international survey exploring the response of long-term care facilities to the COVID-19 pandemic. The study collected data from 212 managers and 2143 staff working at 223 long-term care facilities in 13 countries/regions (Brazil, Egypt, England, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Norway, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Spain, Thailand, and Turkey). The results showed that (i) pre-pandemic preparedness (such as education on infection control, etc.) significantly shaped long-term care facilities' response to the pandemic; (ii) adequate psychological support to long-term care residents and staff might help mitigate the negative impacts of infection outbreaks; and (iii) about 4 out of every 10 staff encountered instances of social discrimination during the COVID-19 pandemic.
