低域混成波による球状トカマクプラズマの電流駆動

Research Abstract

東大のTST-2球状トカマク装置において、低域混成波(LHW)周波数帯の高周波波動(周波数200MHz、最高パワー100kW)を用い、プラズマ電流増加の実証およびそれに関する物理過程解明を目指した実験を推進した。
プラズマ中に励起されるLHW進行波の波数を制御できるという誘電体充填型導波管配列アンテナの特徴を活かし、プラズマ電流増大に最適な波数を調査した。達成されたプラズマ電流、電流を担う高速電子が放射する硬X線のエネルギースペクトルより、磁力線に沿った方向の規格化波数n||=ck||/omegaの最適領域は1<n||<5であることが明らかとなった。
これまで使った3種類のアンテナでいずれも10~15kAのプラズマ電流が達成されているが、電流駆動効率の指標となるeta_CD=n_e*I_p*R_0/P_RFは、新規に開発した静電結合型コムラインアンテナを使った場合に最も高い値が達成された。このアンテナは13個のアンテナ素子をもつため、方向性が高く、シャープな波数スペクトルをもつLHW進行波を励起できることに起因すると考えられる。
RFパワー変調に対するX線の応答および粒子軌道計算により、プラズマ周辺部で生成された高速電子の多くは損失してしまうことがわかった。これが電流駆動効率の低下の原因だと考えられる。磁場を高めれば波がプラズマ中心部に到達しやすくなり、プラズマ電流を高めれば軌道損失が減る。密度を高めると高速電子のエネルギーを制限し、軌道損失を制限できるが、高めすぎると電流駆動効率が急激に劣化する。高パワー入射で観測される密度上昇を抑えるため、電子サイクロトロン波の入射が有効であることが実験で示されている。またプラズマ前面の電子密度を減らせれば、波数スペクトルの更なる改善が期待できる。これらの方策により、電流駆動効率の改善が実現できると考えられる。
