| Research Abstract |
This study tried to make clear the risk perception and risk coping of ordinary people toward risks in everyday life including earthquakes and atomic power plant accidents. The change of perception before and after great disaster as well as the differences between Japan, China, and the U.S. are examined. Analysis of the quantitative data gathered through social surveys in the three countries revealed differences among the three countries, and the effect of risk experience. The analysis also revealed the levels of trust in the specialists/agencies responsible for risk-information and risk-coping. It can be said people’s subjective security of mind depends greatly on the trust of experts; risk communication should be proceeded realizing trust between laypeople and experts.
