Research Abstract

彗星は、原始太陽系円盤内で塵（ダスト）が付着成長することによって形成された微惑星の生き残りであると考えられている。観測技術の飛躍的な進歩により、近年、世界各国で詳細な赤外線スペクトル観測によって、彗星から放出されたダストの熱放射が捉えられてきた。これら赤外線スペクトルデータを意義あるものにするためには、データに正しい解釈を与えなければならない。これにより赤外線スペクトルデータは彗星及び微惑星の形成・進化を理解する上で重要な役割を果たすことができる。
本研究の具体的な目的は、彗星ダストの変成に着目し、サブミクロン粒子凝集体ダストモデルを用い赤外線スペクトルと彗星の進化との関係を明確化することである。本研究課題は４つのプロジェクト（①光散乱のモデル化、②力学進化のモデル化、③衝突現象のモデル化、④熱放射のモデル化）として遂行される。
平成２５年度の研究では、これまで行った①～④のプロジェクトを総括し、本研究の目的を達成することであった。その結果、これまで彗星の赤外線スペクトル観測で検出されたカンラン石に特有のピークは、その強さがフラクタル次元に依存し、ピーク波長は有機物の体積比率や組成によって決まることが明らかになった。すなわち、彗星の進化に伴いダストマントルが表層に形成され、そのダストマントル形成過程でフラクタル次元の増加および有機物の炭素化が起こり、彗星の赤外線スペクトルが決まるのである。こうして、赤外線スペクトルと彗星進化との関係は明確化され、本研究の目的が達成された。
