Research Abstract |
Atomic scale controlled transition metal oxide heterostructures are becoming a platform for exploring novel electronic ground states. Here, we focus on high-mobility electron gas systems confined on the atomic scale using transition metal oxides. We succeeded in controlling the conductivity of the metallic interface between two insulators LaAlO_3/SrTiO_3 by external voltage or adsorption of polar molecules. In the case of an ultrathin n-type SrTiO_3 confined between insulating SrTiO_3, we observed two-dimensional quantum oscillations and two-dimensional superconductivity.
