カゴ状ナノ空間に発現するラットリングと電子ー格子相互作用の研究

Research Abstract

カゴ状物質では電子格子相互作用により,内包イオンの非調和振動である熱活性ラットリングおよび量子トンネリングが出現し,新しい重い電子や秩序の可能性が期待される。ラットリングは,弾性定数の周波数分散によって観測でき,解析により活性エネルギーEと特性緩和時間t_0を決定できる。また,低温での非調和振動は量子トンネリングは弾性定数の低温ソフト化として観測できる。3-20-6系カゴ状化合物Pr_3Pd_<20>Ge_6の実験では10-20Kと20-30Kの2つの温度領域にラットリングに起因する超音波分散を観測した。非調和ポテンシャルが複数の安定点をもっと考えられる。低温の250mKでΓ_3結晶場基底をもつ8cサイトにおいて反強四極子秩序を観測した。さらに低温の60mKでΓ_5基底をもつ4aサイトの秩序を観測し,ラットリングと強い関連があると考えられる。ラットリングが存在しない充填スクッテルダイトPrFe_4P_<12>の磁場方向[111]で出現する磁場誘起秩序B相を解明するためヘリウム3冷凍機を用いて超音波実験を行った。以前の報告結果とは異なり,ゼロ磁場での明瞭な弾性定数C_<44>および(C_<11>-C<12>)/2のソフト化を観測した。これは結晶場基底が,予想されているΓ_1一重項-Γ_4三重項の擬縮重状態と整合した結果である。また,低磁場領域に存在するA相とB相の境界で,弾性定数(C_<11>-C_<12>)/2が発散的に低温ソフト化を示すことを見出した。これは,温度・磁場相図において,電気四極子に起因した量子臨界性が出現していることを意味する。今後,より低温および強磁場における超音波実験を進め,量子臨界現象の解明を目指す。
