Research Abstract

今年度は、Physical Review Letters誌とPhysical Review B誌とに、それぞれ、"Coherent Terahertz Emission of Intrinsic Josephson Junction Stacks in the Hot Spot Regime"、"Interaction of hot spots and terahertz waves in Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_8 intrinsic Josephson junction stack of various geometry"を発表するなど研究は順調に進展している。
固有ジョセブソン接合からのTHz放射メカニズム解明と、THz放射出力アップを目指して、研究代表者が発明した両面加工法により様々な形状の接合スタックを単結晶チップに集積し、THz放射出力・周波数の評価を行った。さらに研究代表者は、チュービンゲン大学に滞在し、日独共同で低温走査型レーザー顕微鏡を用いたテラヘルツ励起パターン(定在波パターン)の観測を行った。接合スタックの形状が接合面内を伝搬する電磁波に対する空洞共振器として働き、この共振周波数が、接合電圧で決まるジョセブソン周波数に一致するときにTHz外部放射が得られる。研究代表者が発見した高バイアス条件においては、接合内に加熱領域(T>Tc)が生じるとともに、40%を超える放射THz周波数可変性が観測された。加熱領域の出現により空洞共振器の実効サイズが接合の非加熱領域(T<Tc)となることから、共振器の長さが変化し共振周波数が変化することが解った。バイアス電流と熱浴の温度を制御することにより、放射周波数の広範囲な制御が可能となった。
