Research Abstract

固有ジョセフソン接合を利用したテラヘルツ帯レーザーの実現に向けて、我々はテラヘルツ電磁波放射の"高バイアス条件"(ギャップ電圧をほぼ保ちながら電流がゼロに近づくバイアス領域)、"HOT SPOT"の出現(接合中心部が超伝導遷移温度以上に加熱する現象)、周波数可変性の発見(加熱により共鳴箱である超伝導体の実効サイズが変化する現象)を報告してきた。本年度は本研究課題の最終年度である。東日本大震災の影響を乗り越え、以下にあげる成果を挙げた。
自作の低温走査型レーザー顕微鏡を完成させた。この顕微鏡の小型化を図ることにより、既存のテラヘルツ発振実験用のクライオスタットに装着することに成功した。これにより、従来のテラヘルツ光外部放射の強度・分光分析と同時に、接合内部でのテラヘルツ共鳴励起モードの観測が可能となった。
ロシア科学アカデミーのコテルニコフ電波・電子工学研究所との共同研究で、我々の固有ジョセフソン接合テラヘルツ発振素子からのテラヘルツ放射電磁波の周波数線幅の測定を行った。測定に用いたのは、共同研究者の開発した金属窒化物超伝導体ジョセフソン接合Nb/A1N/NbNから構成される、平面アンテナ・SISミキサー・ジョセフソン接合局部発振素子の集積デバイスである。従来の発振条件、即ち、固有ジョセフソン接合列の電流-電圧特性における電圧状態へのスイッチ後、ギャップ電圧をほぼ保ちながら電流がゼロに近づき、やがて電圧が減少し始める条件(低電流バイアス条件、所謂、subgap conductance領域)では、周波数線幅が500MHzより小さくなることはなかった。一方、我々が見出した"高バイアス電流条件"では、周波数線幅が最小で6MHzに達した。その原因は、HOT SPOTの生成により接合列が常伝導抵抗体で結合され、各接合の位相が整合して線幅が鋭くなったものと解釈できる。
