Research Abstract |
We developed the dynamic reconfigurable optical device that can couple and separate spatial modes propagating in an optical fiber. In addition, we carried out the experiment on polarization-free optical coupling for connected optical fibers having different spatial modes. Mode separation was achieved via optical interference between spatial mode beams and control beams, by using a multiplex volume holographic diffraction element with a photorefractive crystal. Furthermore, mode excitation was carried out using a first-order diffraction beam from a spatial light modulator.
