Research Abstract |
Preparation methods for metallic or semiconducting nanostructures with 0-, 1-and 2-dimensional structures have been developed in order to research and understand the structural and quantum properties originated from excited states. Formations of nanostructures by site-, element-and direction-selective atomic manipulations have been carried out by a combination of electronic excitations and knock-on atomic displacements. The mechanisms of photoluminescence induced by quantum size effects in nanoparticles can be interpreted by metal-nonmetal transition in metallic nanoparticles or by quasi-direct electronic transition in indirect transition semiconducting nanoparticles
