Research Abstract |
Fhod3, a member of formin family proteins that play pivotal roles in actin filament assembly, plays a crucial role in organization of the sarcomere(the contractile unit of myofibrils) in cultured cardiomyocytes. Indeed Fhod3-gene-deficient mice are embryonic lethal due to defective myofibrillogenesis at an early stage of heart development. Thus Fhod3 is a protein essential for cardiogenesis.
