Research Abstract |
The present study aimed to clarity risk factors of osteoporotic fractures and the effects of fractures and coronary risk factors on mortality in a population-based cohort of 2159 elderly Japanese men. Predictors for fractures appeared to be low bone density, and those for mortality were older age, higher CRP levels and incident fractures(age-adjusted hazard ratio(HR) of fracture : 17.9, multivariate-adjusted HR : 12.9). Thus, incident clinical fractures appeared to be a potent risk factor for mortality in community-dwelling elderly Japanese men.
