Research Abstract |
EPA(Economic Partnership Agreement) between Japan and Asia countries has begun since 2008.Through this program, many foreign caregivers coming from Indonesia and Philippine will improve the difficult condition of Japanese nursing home, such as shortage of staff. They will be indispensables from now on. Japanese language instructors have to build Japanese education system and prepare for teaching materials to nurture foreign caregivers as a specialist. In this research, first, I investigated present condition of EPA system in Japan. Second, I researched Japanese textbooks and learning materials on web. Finally, I analyzed discourse between caregivers and elderly at nursing home to demonstrate the characteristics of communication strategy. These studies describe that foreign caregivers learning Japanese language need to not only develop their communicative competence, but also understand Japanese dialects, history, and culture. On the other hand, keeping their own discourse style(e. g., Indonesian and Philippine discourse) is also important to reflect their individual characteristics on communication with the Japanese elderly.
