Research Abstract |
Main result 1 : we have provided important conditions for that even though new entrants entered primary route markets, continuing to operate the initial hub-spoke network is a reasonable strategy for a hub carrier. Main result 2 : we have shown the economies of a mixed network where a hub carrier retains its one-stop service while its low-cost subsidiary offers nonstop service in the rim market. These results provide meaningful managerial implications for airlines, and welfare implications for policymakers in the industry.
