Research Abstract |
A General Teaching Council, which is the central subject of this study, originates in the Scottish GTC founded in 1965, and set up in each part of the UK since 2000. Recently, this system is widely introduced into many countries. Its common roles are mainly in-service training for professional development and registration function as professional association. The differences of power and autonomy between GTCs are clearly associated with each social recognition and status of teaching profession.
