Research Abstract |
Syndiotactic polystyrene (sPS) forms co-crystals, where low-mass molecules are stored as guests in the crystal lattice of sPS. The guest exchange phenomenon in the sPS co-crystals were followed by time-resolved small-angle neutron scattering and time-resolved simultaneous small-angle and wide-angle X-ray scattering and also IR spectroscopy, which enabled to estimate the diffusion coefficients of guest molecules in the crystalline region of sPS co-crystals and clarified the changes in lattice and higher order structures. It has been also clarified that oligomeric compounds consisting of ethylene oxide repeat units can be introduced into sPS lattice as guests by guest exchange procedure.
