Research Abstract |
In this study a series of 1g shaking table model tests and dynamic analyses on the bridge abutment were carried out to examine the influence of the existence of steel strip reinforcement, the strip length, the magnitude of input acceleration and the rigidity of the abutment wall on the dynamic behavior of the bridge abutment and backfill. These results lead to the conclusion that this abutment reinforcement is effective on earthquake resistant and indicate the possibility of the reduction of the rigidity of the abutment wall itself.
