Research Abstract |
Function of RegIV, an antimicrobial lectin secreted from intestinal epithelia, was analyzed using recombinant human RegIV protein. Analysis of ligand binding property using sugar-coupled beads revealed that recombinant RegIV binds peptidoglycan form gram-positive bacteria. It was also shown that RegIV elicits bactericidal activity on E. coli through membrane permeabilization.
