Research Abstract |
A TaqMan RT-PCR was developed to detect and classify genotypes of hepatitis E virus(HEV). Putative animal reservoirs and environmental samples were studied to investigate potential routes of transmission for indigenous HEV infection. HEV RNA was detected using RT-PCR. HEV strains derived from swine liver, environmental samples shared 93-100% sequence similarity with human HEV strains.
