Research Abstract

Mariners who sail all over the world are exposed to various "accented" English influenced by the speakers' first languages rather than the English spoken by native speakers. Thus, the present research project focused on creating the World Maritime English Speech Database(www2. kaiyodai. ac. jp/～takagi/pweb/wme. htm) and the Maritime English Vocabulary Development Program using speech files contained in the database(www. e. kaiyodai. ac. jp/MT/mei-hp/mevdev. html).
