Research Abstract |
This survey identified that proficient nurses spent approximately 10 seconds each time they spoke with seniors. Nurses used communication skills to offset cognitive and hearing impairments, as well as to motivate patients to take expected actions. And we found 5 important components(sensory impairments, assist patients 'understanding, encourage patients to speak, respect patients' attitudes, and promote patient safety) for communicating with elderly patients. Nurses need good communication skills to be able to obtain information about elderly patients' interests and assess their understanding. The experienced nurses in this study learned these skills through their experiences.
