Research Abstract |
My hypothesis for this research was Japanese language teachers had emphasized on predominance and peculiarity of Japanese culture even just after World War II. I interviewed 11 former missionaries who experienced Japanese language education from 1950s to 1970s. As an additional survey, I collected historical documents which related to interviewees and their experiences in Japan. They appear that (1) most of interviewees learned Japanese in Tokyo Japanese Language School,(2) interviewees did not have memories that their teachers had emphasized on predominance and peculiarity of Japanese culture.
