| Research Abstract |
This study focused on the process of the establishment and the subsequent expansions of the Venetian Ghetto. It showed that while the ghetto was made for compulsory concentration of the Jews, it functioned as a sort of privilege for the Jewish merchants seeking their own residence as it was enlarged from the mid 16^<th> century. Jewish inhabitants in the ghetto were not completely segregated from the Christian people in the city, interacting with them on many different ways in daily life.
