Research Abstract

On the basis of the data of a survey research carried out in 2010 and addressed to the young people in the Nerima ward, I quantitatively analyzed their opinions and behaviors related to hobbies and cultures, their tendency to use media, and their general stances on social and political issues. As a result, it is confirmed that different tendencies of practices among the hobbies and various types of resources that function as "subcultural capital" exist. In this study, I clarified the theoretical and methodological problems that need to be solved when using concepts such as "subcultural capital" or "cultural capital" in the field of subculture surveys, and analyzed the relationship between hobbies and sociality.
