Research Abstract

Whether bubbles in magmas can segregate (outgas) from the liquid magma determines eruption styles. Previous studies using solid pumice/scoria have suggested that steady permeable flow causes outgassing. In this study, I perform a model experiment of outgassing from a liquid foam and show that such a steady permeable flow does not occur. I also formulate an equation to explain the outgassing volume from liquid foam quantitatively.
