Research Abstract |
A high-performance parallel code for particle-immersed turbulence has been developed to investigate turbulent collisions of inertial particles in air turbulence. The code adopts our original forcing method, named reduced communication forcing, to achieve a stationary state. The code has enabled us to obtain the statistics concerning turbulent collision frequency in as high as Re_λ=340, where Re_λ is Taylor microscale based Reynolds number. This data has revealed that a conventional collision frequency model underestimates turbulent collision frequency in high Re_λ flows.
