Research Abstract |
The present study addressed the role of amino acids as a regulator of proteolysis in myotubes. Leucine and glutamine suppressed proteolysis, while also decreasing expression of atrogin-1 mRNA through the L- system amino acid transporter (LAT1). Amino acids did not activate AKT-FOXO signaling pathway, but inhibiting proteolysis. Thus, an important component of muscle proteolysis inhibition by leucine or amino acids, through LAT1 but not AKT-FOXO signaling pathway, is its ability to suppress muscle protein degradation.
