Research Abstract |
To study the role of sex hormones in life, we generated triple receptors (AR and ER a/b) knockout (TKO) mice. TKO male mice were born healthy but exhibited increased anxiety-like behavior with lowered post-synaptic serotonin-1A receptor in the forebrain. These data provide genetic evidence that sex steroid hormones are dispensable for the viability, but exert an anxiolytic effect via serotonin-1A receptor in males.
