Research Abstract |
We studied the effect of cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) on life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac deaths in patients with chronic heart failure in Tohoku University Hospital (n=63). CRT reduced the number of premature ventricular contractions using a Holter monitoring. Furthermore, CRT reduced life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias through improving the status of heart failure, especially left ventricular (LV) reverse remodeling (i.e. reduction of LV volume after CRT). CRT-defibrillators (CRT-D) for primary prevention of sudden cardiac deaths also showed the beneficial effect on reduction in ventricular arrhythmias.
