Experimental study on open quantum many-body systems using strongly correlated cold atoms

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

最終年度となった2023年度は、光格子中において、あるサイトに2個、その隣は0個、その隣は2個というように、つまり(…0,2,0,2,0……)という特異な初期状態(以下|2,0>状態)を用意し、そこから光格子深さを急激にさげてサイト間ホッピングを可能にし(クエンチ)、系の時間発展を観測する非平衡ダイナミクスの実験的測定とその理論計算との比較を集中的に行った。共同研究者の段下らによる理論提案では、ヒルベルト空間の断片化(Hilbert Space Fragmentation)により、|2,0>状態は熱平衡に達しないことが示されており、非常に興味深い非平衡ダイナミクスが期待される。実験結果を共同研究者の段下らによる数値シミュレーションと比較した。その結果は、実験と理論的計算がほぼ一致するという結果を得た。一方、トラップポテンシャルや原子密度の不均一性などが熱平衡化に大きな影響を与えるという新しい知見も得ることができた。また、|2,0>状態からのクエンチと比較する目的で、光格子中において、あるサイトに1個、その隣は0個、その隣は1個というように、つまり(…0,1,0,1,0……)という初期状態(以下|1,0>状態)も用意して、そこからの非平衡ダイナミクスも測定した。この状態は熱平衡に達することが期待されるので、対照実験として最適である。これも実験と理論のよい一致を得ることができた。
また、研究分担者の段下は、ボソン冷却原子系、フェルミオン冷却原子系だけでなく、スピン系を含めた。新たな理論的な実験提案を含む様々な理論的研究を行った
