Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, we devised a method to specifically suppress cancer cells by simultaneously suppressing two genes for one genetic abnormality in cancer. Based on this idea, we used a method of simultaneously suppressing two genes and found that simultaneous administration of two proteins to SMARCB1-deficient cancer cells showed an antitumor effect.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

MARCB1欠損型のがんには、小児がんや若年性がんであるラブドイド腫瘍や類上皮肉腫が知られている。これらのがんは難治性希少がんであり、治療法が十分に確立されていない。本研究では、SMARCB1欠損がんに対する治療標的を同定した。本研究の成果は、その標的に対する阻害剤を用いた分子標的治療法が、小児がんや若年性がんであるラブドイド腫瘍や類上皮肉腫の治療法の確立につながることが期待できる。
