Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
Numerical investigation on linear and nonlinear time history seismic response simulation using the multi degree of freedom coupled vibration control (CVC) structures linked with negative stiffness were conducted. Coupled structures with different natural periods and structural parameters were used for time history seismic response simulation under various earthquake motions. As a result, the numerical study achieved an effective control performance upon installing the optimized negative stiffness at the connecting portion of the CVC model. The study also indicated that the reduction in the structural response of CVC systems subjected to input motions depends on the setting of the connecting elements. Validation of the theoretical and numerical investigations were done by conducting experiments using the shake table tests for CVC structures linked with passive negative stiffness device (PNSD) under dynamic excitations. Significant control performance of the CVC structures by incorporating a PNSD as the connector under seismic excitations was attained. The study experimentally and numerically elucidated the response behavior and control effects of CVC structural systems incorporating passive negative stiffness at the connection subjected to earthquakes. The research contributed to the advancement of aseismic technology of coupled or adjacent buildings utilizing the PNSD.
