Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
To date, we have successfully fabricated Ag/Al-coated high aspect ratio (11) nanopillars, coated their surface with antibodies specific to C-reactive protein and SARS-CoV-2 spike protein and later used them to detect their respective antigens with limits of detection equal to 11 and 5 pM, respectively. These results were published in the manuscript listed below. Recently, we have assembled two types of microfluidic device with single and triple channels and a polystyrene (PS) thin film base coated with high aspect ratio Ag/Al-coated PS nanopillars. Using our device, we have successfully detected protein-protein interactions within Biotin-Streptavidin-X system, where X corresponds to ligands with various molecular weights, in real time.

Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
At the moment, we are following our initially suggested timeline with only a few weeks deviation.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
Currently, we are collecting numerical data on our system using Lumerical models to test validity of our observations and to correctly analyze our data. In the next few weeks, we plan to wrap up currently available results and to submit a manuscript Real-time detection of protein-protein interactions via high aspect ratio plasmonic nanostructures inside a microfluidic channel to Nanoscale. For the rest of the scholarship, we plan to work on further improvement of our PPI detection system and to collect enough data using various protein or biomolecule systems. Finally, we aim to contribute both quantitative and qualitative information on commonly used protein systems and to publish that as one more manuscript in a high impact factor journal.
