Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
During this year, I have been collecting data based on the investigation being conducted, which focuses on how the global COVID-19 pandemic has influenced the lives of the people. In specific, along with many international collaborators, we are looking into the effect of both strict and voluntary confinement and governmental measures on psychological state and cognitive performance. More concretely, I have been collecting data focusing solely on the Japanese population and investigating whether the voluntary measures recommended by the government can have some effect on the psychological state (anxiety, depression, and loneliness) as well as performance in cognitive tasks and temporal tasks.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
I believe that the progress is slow because this is a longitudinal study conducted in a very volatile environment. Given that we are mainly interested in COVID-19, we have to watch how the pandemic progresses in the world and there is a lot of uncertainty in this field. However, during the waiting time, I am studying different mathematical methods in which to analyze the data.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
I have conducted a simple analysis in order to present basic findings at the conference but to make this even better, I plan to use Bayesian statistics and hierarchical modeling to dig deeper into the data, especially because this is an exploratory research. Moreover, along with some colleagues whom I have been collaborating internationally, I am planning to publish a database paper with all the data collected in the past two years. Moreover, I plan to publish a paper based on just the data involving the Japanese participants in specific to their psychological state, cognitive state, and temporal cognition.
