Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
1)I finished STUDY1 about the cultural differences in support seeking. The results showed that compared to European Canadians/Americans,higher relational concern and lower empathic concern discouraged Japanese people from seeking social support in response to daily stress, and this reduced support seeking worsened feelings of loneliness. And I wrote a paper"Cultural differences in social support seeking:The mediating role of empathic concern"which has been published on PLoS one last December.2)I finished a study regarding OPRM1×perceived parental attention on support seeking.I found that only for those with OPRM1 GG genotype, perceived parental attention significantly promote support seeking. It was submitted to Adaptive Human Behavior and Physiology.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.
Reason
First, regarding STUDY 1, in addition to two studies planned, I conducted another two follow-up studies to explore the mechanisms underlying the link between empathic concern and support seeking and cultural differences in empathic concern. Second, regarding STUDY 2, I also conducted a survey among Chinese international students in U.S. By doing so, I attempted to replicate and extend the findings found among Chinese international students in Japan. Now, I am analyzing the data of these three studies and writing my dissertation.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
I will write my dissertation and prepare my dissertation defense until August. I plan to obtain my degree in this September. After that, I will write a manuscript regarding the mechanisms underlying cultural differences in empathic concern and the positive link between empathic concern and submit it to an international journal (e.g., Journal of Cross-Cultural Psychology). Also, I will write a manuscript regarding the roles of support seeking in cross-cultural adaptation and submit it an international journal. Meanwhile, I will start data collection of STUDY 3 in a laboratory at Nagoya University in the fall semester of 2022. I plan to finish the data collection and analyses of this study by the end of 2022.
