Outline of Final Research Achievements

Modern evolutionary studies of mind began in the 1970s, but they have been subject to criticism and, as a result, have changed considerably in content and methodology in the 2000s. In this project, we examined this "updated" form, not the original "naive" form, of evolutionary studies of mind. The main findings are: (i) evolutionary studies of consciousness, especially those of Feinberg and Mallett, can by and large withstand the kind of criticism that has traditionally been leveled at evolutionary psychology, and (ii) Lynn Hankinson Nelson's criticism of evolutionary psychology as being problematically value-laden is not successful.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
