Outline of Final Research Achievements

Our critical research was conceived to actively engage with artists’ practices, in the context of the histories and theories discussed in our preceding research, including the article titled “Exhibition spaces emitting light and sound: contemporary art and image media (2019).” We conducted extensive research on exhibitions, references and interviews with artists and collaborators on the related exhibitions, particularly focusing on solo shows of international artists known for their practices on installations using moving images, held during the period of this grant. Our research achievements were publicized in the form of several books and articles, presentations, lectures, a symposia, screenings and exhibitions.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究課題は、実施期間の大半と重なるコロナ禍の中で再認識された、上映と差別化できる展示という形式の美学ならびにその作品受容への影響を批評的に検証することによって、現代美術におけるスクリーン・プラクティスの様相の一端を明らかにした。研究対象となった国内外のアーティスト複数人に対する研究資料を多様な形で社会に発信した本研究は、ポスト・コロナ時代の映像芸術批評・映像メディア研究の実践的な試みとして位置付けられる。
