Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this research, we digitized, transcribed, and analyzed diaries written during the occupation period (1947-1952), which are part of Seiichiro Kurabayashi's former collection. Through this work, we will explore the dynamics of postwar new drama and contemporary culture from the perspective of theater producer Seiichiro Kurabayashi, the function and role of the producer's profession in artistic practice, the behind-the-scenes history of postwar new drama that is not talked about on the surface of history, and postwar Japan. We considered the re-evaluation of Kurabayashi in terms of culture. In addition, the economic advantage that "Shingeki" had after the defeat in the war due to its close relationship with commercial (large theater) plays and movies as "entertainment" and Kurabayashi's skill as a producer became clear. By positioning the history of Kurabayashi in the study of box office history, we sought to change the paradigm of conventional new theater history.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
倉林誠一郎日記の翻刻・考証によって、倉林という演劇制作者の事績と戦後新劇の動態を明らかにし、作家・演出家・俳優等の創作主体からの視点にとどまらない演劇(史)研究への視角をひらくとともに、演劇という表現を時代・文化の集約点として捉え、社会への影響力の形成過程の解明をめざした。それらは新劇にとどまらず、ひろく戦後日本の演劇界や文化状況に関する問題、さらには今日的な問題へと接続されるものであり、本研究は学際性・今日性という点でも大きな意義を有する。さらに、これまで軽視されてきた、演劇(史)における制作者という機能や経済性という問題の研究を推し進め、広く研究を活性化する契機にもなるといえる。
