Outline of Final Research Achievements |
A comprehensive re-examination of TAKEBE Ayatari's multifaceted achievements-haikai, waka, novels, kokugaku, painting, and more-has yielded the following outcomes: (1)Ayatari's paintings, where haikai hokku are inscribed as captions, often depict figures, cats, elephants, and other animals, imbued with a humorous and whimsical charm. In later years, as he began to inscribe katauta, an ancient poetic form, the subjects depicted shifted to more traditional themes common in Chinese painting, such as waterfowl and thatched boats, losing some of the humorous elements. (2)One of Ayatari's intentions in writing the novel "Nishiyama Monogatari" seems to have been to provide a sort of textbook for writing in classical Japanese (giko-bun). He demonstrated to his disciples, through this work, how he applied the results of his research into the literary style of ancient court classics as a practitioner of kokugaku.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
