Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
This year we collected the final set of data we will use for the corpus. The data collected during the pandemic was clearer in terms of the audio, but we found a number of other problems with it and decided to collect an additional face-to-face year. This concludes the data collection phase of the project.
The major difficulty we have found so far with the data is the expensive and time-consuming nature of getting the spoken data transcribed. As such, we have been working to solve these problems and facilitate a smoother, faster transcription process. The transcription was our major focus this year.

3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
The challenges of the data collection have mainly be teacher error in trying to get the recordings done properly and returned to the project coordinator. In addition, we have experienced a bit of a bottle neck at the point of getting the data transcribed. We are working on ways to streamline that with code and online systems. We are continuing to use a dedicated transcriber consistency, but this leads to slower progress on the transcriptions.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
We are continuing with processing data this year and are hoping to get some help from Dawn Knight at Cardiff University with understanding how to better organize the data to allow for easy access to entries from different learners. This will allow others to more easily access the anonymous data and conduct research on it. We will continue analyzing the data for our own research projects in the meantime.

Causes of Carryover |
Some of the money that was not spent this year was intended to be used for transcription. While much of the current year's expenditure was used for transcription, transcription is time-consuming and we have just one person working on it. Thus, there has been a delay in the transcription process. Some of the carried over funds will be used for travel to conferences and others for transcriptions.
