Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
a) We presented the papers: Spanish as a Heritage Language among the Nikkei Families in the 33rd ASELE Conference, Spain (2023, 8/29-9/2), and Resources for Spanish Heritage Learners in the 2024 SWCOLT, EE.UU. (2024, 2/29 to 3/ 2). b) Estrategias Linguisticas Familiares en la Ensenanza del Espanol como Lengua de Herencia en Japon was published in the Journal of Keio, Vol. 19, 2022. c) La lengua de herencia en las familias nikkei en Japon: Analisis de la situacion actual, was accepted for publication in the 2024 Volumen ASELE. d) In November 2023 and February 2024, we conducted a collaborative workshops with the Spanish Saturday school in Shonandai to maintain the heritage language and culture. e) We continued with the data collection and the analysis of the interviews.

1: Research has progressed more than it was originally planned.
Reason
This study is progressing according to the objectives initially planned for the third year of research. The preliminary results were presented in conferences and published in academic journals. According to the needs of the heritage speakers, learning materials are being prepared to be included in the booklet about Spanish as a heritage language In addition to the continuous literature review, we are analyzing the data from the interviews, questionnaires and observations at the Spanish language school.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In 2024, the researchers will continue with the analysis of the data and interviews among the second generation of heritage speakers. We will prepare the booklet and learning materials for the heritage language learners. The research results of the study will be presented in the following conference: Asia Pacific Conference (November 30th to December 1st. 2024) Bridging Divides for Global Recovery, and will be sent to academic journals for publication.

Causes of Carryover |
The remaining funds from the previous year and the funds scheduled for the following year will be used as follows: We will cover the expenses regarding the publication of the booklet and learning materials for heritage learners. Additionally, we will use the remaining funds to present the results in an academic conference.
