Outline of Final Research Achievements

A total of 103 English textbooks for elementary, junior high, and senior high schools, developed under the current Course of Study implemented since 2020, were analyzed to investigate the actual use of vocabulary from the perspectives of derivational words, polysemous words, and collocations. The results showed that derivational words and collocations were introduced only to a limited extent in elementary school but gradually increased in both variety and frequency as grade levels advanced. Regarding polysemous words, some were found to be used with peripheral meanings even at the early stages of learning. Across all perspectives, a sharp increase in vocabulary was observed during the transition from junior high to senior high school, suggesting the potential for increased learning difficulty during this period.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
