Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
In AY2021, I continued research on cyber diplomatic activities of Japan, the EU, and several EU member states, interviewed several stakeholder in the UK, held meetings with my collaborators in Europe, presented two papers at academic conferences, saw the publication of one journal article, and submitted one journal article and two book chapters, which will be published in AY2022. I also submitted a proposal for a special issue with three co-editors and began to draft two articles for it. And finally, I re-submitted and proposal for a Handbook on Cyber Diplomacy with my three co-editors to a European academic publisher.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
Because of the travel restrictions in 2021 and early 2022, I was not able to visit the cyber capacity building centers in Southeast Asia for interviews and observations as was originally planned. I hope to do so in AY2022. Other than that, I was able to finish several journal articles and book chapters, present two conference papers, and engage on online meetings with my collaborators in Europe. A Stakeholder Conference originally planned to be held in March 2022 had to be postponed, because Japanese travel restrictions do still not allow foreign stakeholders and academics to visit Japan in person.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
IN AY2022, I am planning to visit two cyber capacity building centers in Southeast Asia, visit Europe for research group meetings and a conference. I will also continue the preparations for a Stakeholder Conference to be held in Tokyo hopefully later in 2022. I will continue the participation of conferences and interviews in Japan.

Causes of Carryover |
Field visit to Cyber Capacity Building Centers, participation in research consortium meeting in Europe, travel to interviews, data collection.
