Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
As explained below, work this academic year 4/2021 ~ 3/2022 (AY2021・令和3年度)did not progress as planned.
The global pandemic has made it impossible to carry out the original research plan. An alternative microfinance instituiton implementing a "credit-plus" approach that includes training of entrepreneurs has been identified and meetings were held. Plans for research collaboration this pilot year of the program were discussed and a proposal submitted to the board of the organization.
An intake survey for entrepreneurs was designed and revised. Discussion questions were agreed upon for focus group discussions among entreprenuers involved in the program. A first focus group discussion was held and recorded for analysis.

Reason
The prolonged coronavirus pandemic has made the original research proposal, which involved field work in Sri Lanka, impossible to carry out as planned.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
This coming academic year, 4/2022 ~ 3/2023 (AY2022・令和4年度), we plan to hold 3 more focus group discussions and to conduct qualitative analysis of those discussions.
Presentation of the revised research proposal will be made at acadmemic conferences, including an ICU-hosted SSRI-IGC (Sophia) Conference on the topic of "Accelerators for Sustainable Development" on Friday, December 9 & Saturday, December 10, 2022.

Causes of Carryover |
Global health conditions permitting, this academic year there will be at least one other research trip to meet with collaborating partner institution about the direction of the study and to conduct fieldwork.
