Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
As planned at the end of the first year of the grant, 令和3年度・AY2021 (4/2021-3/2022), this year, 令和4年度・AY2022 (4/2022-3/2023), we have been able to hold three more focus group discussions and to conduct qualitative analysis of those discussions.
We also implemented a quantitative survey of the initial pilot program participants of WEBB Squared, the credit plus training program currently under study.
Preliminary analysis quantitative analysis of the survey data and qualitative analysis of the focus group discussion analysis was presented at an academic conference "Accelerators for Sustainable Development" towards the end of this academic year 令和4年度・AY2022 (4/2022-3/2023).

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
4: Progress in research has been delayed.
Reason
The prolonged coronavirus pandemic and now political instability has made the original research proposal, which involved field work in Sri Lanka, impossible to carry out as planned.
As reported last year, 令和3年度・AY2021 (4/2021-3/2022), an alternative microfinance organization has been identified for study. However, the coronavirus pandemic has resulted in a smaller number of participants in the pilot year of that program than anticipated.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
This coming academic year, 令和5年度・AY2023 (4/2023-3/2024), we plan to write up the preliminary quantitative and qualitative analysis results as an academic study. That study will be shared with the board of the newly identified microfinance institution for feedback.
Feedback will be incorporated into revised empirical analysis and communication of the results of the analysis.
Tentative plan to publish the results of the analysis of the pilot year program as a book chapter.

Causes of Carryover |
Global health conditions made field work in Sri Lanka, orignally planned for the first year of the project, 令和3年・AY2021, impossible to carry out. In Sri Lanka, health conditions continued to be severe in the second year of the project, 令和4年・AY2022, so have still not been conducted. Funds carried forward to this year, the third year of the project, 令和5年・AY2023, are tentatively planned for further field work with an alternative collaborating partner.
