Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
For the Fiscal Year 2023, I have conducted interviewed with executives of EV carmakers, parts suppliers, government and private-sector supporting agencies in Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia. In Vietnam, after a long negotiation process, we succeeded in interviewing VINFAST, the most promosing locally-owned EV carmaker with global export and investment. In Thailand, we interviewed Chinese EV makers like Great Wall, MG and Japanese automakers with EV aspiration like Honda and Nissan. We interviewed EV motorcycle makers, research institutes, and industry associations in Malaysia. Based on the results, one article is now waiting to be published in a respected international journal and four invited public lectures have been given in universities and academic associations in Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, and Korea.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
I have succeeded interviewing in Thailand and Malaysia as we expected. Nonetheless, executives of EV carmakes and part suppliers in Vietnam and Indonesia have been quite reluctant to grant interviews.
|
Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In Thailand, we will try to interview large Japanese companies like Toyota. I and my Malaysian collaborator are expected to interview one local motorcycle firm and EV partmakers within 2 months in Penang. In Vietnam, I am still trying to visit VINFAST's factory and R&D department and its foreign partners like LG. In Indonesia, it turns out to be difficult to get interviews, as they are reluctant to discuss with foreigners. I have asked Indonesian researchers to help. They managed to have three interviews of local E-bus makers. We are trying to interview local EV motorcycle makers. After all interviews are done, I will write a paper comparing firms' strategies, government policies, and influences of external factors like impacts of Covid-19 and the arrival of EV in 4 countries.

Causes of Carryover |
The unused amount was mainly because the delays in conducting interviews in Vietnam and Indonesia. I plan to use the remaining amount to conduct more interviews. In Thailand, I plan to interview large Japanese carmakers like Toyota. In Vietnam, I plan to visit VINFAST's factory and R&D centre. In Indonesia, I will collaborate with local researchers to interview motorcycle EV makers. In Malaysia, if budget permits, I would like to conduct interview of EV motorcycle makers in Penang State.
