Outline of Annual Research Achievements

The purpose of the first year is the preparation of the main survey. More literature has been collected about discrete decision analysis method. The outcome of the first year is the design of the decision sets for the survey. The discrete choice experiment requires the design of decision sets for the respondents. The more efficient these decision sets the more information they present for the estimation. Efficiency is reached by the selection of efficient sets as well as based on provisional estimates of the coefficients. Several pre-studies of the survey need to be conducted to generate provisional estimates of the coefficients. These pre-studies have been conducted in the first year. The product and the levels for each factor have been selected as well.

Current Status of Research Progress

3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.

Reason

The pandemic has made it difficult to conduct the preliminary surveys that are the basis for the Bayesian parameter estimation and that were planned to be conducted among students because there were no in-person classes.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

In the coming year 2022 the data will be collected. The survey will be executed with the final survey design. The data will be collected by a professional survey institute to achieve high representativeness and accuracy among the target population. The data will be entered into a data file. Some efforts will be devoted to data cleaning and a preliminary data analysis. The research assistant will support the handling of the data input. When the data set is in proper order the remaining time is devoted to the detailed data analysis and the interpretation of findings. Additional qualitative research in form of in-debt interviews might be conducted to achieve conceptual and interpretative clarity of the responses.

Causes of Carryover

The teaching assistant could not be hired due to the pandemic and the inability to conduct the preparatory survey. Instead, the teaching assistant will be hired in AY2022 to carry out the preparatory survey.
