Outline of Annual Research Achievements

I have established contact with potential overseas participants for this research. Especially in Taiwan and Japan, I co-organised, with partners in National Taiwan Normal University, two meetings between Technology teachers in Japan and Taiwan to share and explain the types of design projects and process implemented in the classrooms. From these meetings, I am able to understand the design process adopted for problem solving to develop critical thinking skills. I am also able to adapt the findings from the current research to apply it into high school education. I have published a paper to explain how design activities can be conducted during Covid-19 pandemic.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

During the Covid-19 pandemic where I was not able to travel overseas to conduct field surveys, I was still able to prepare my research and contact potential overseas participants of this research through online methods. Using online methods, I was able to start the initial part of the research to understand the design processes used in design projects in Japan and Taiwan. In addition, some of the key data required for this research can still be achieve through online methods.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

In the academic year of 2022, the research will build on the progress in 2021 to elicit the standards for quality critical thinking that can be used to access students during design projects. As international border measures are relaxing, the research will progress using field surveys and online methods.

Causes of Carryover

The main reason for the unused amount in 2021 was related to the restrictions in border measures for Covid pandemic. Due to border control measures, I was not able to conduct field surveys that were expected. As field surveys were not conducted, the travel expenses and article cost for field surveys was lower than expected. In the year 2022, field surveys are expected to resume to some extend Thus, usage plan for incurring amount will be used for field surveys and personal expenditure for data management.
