Outline of Annual Research Achievements

グラフェンや層状化合物で実現される新規物性開拓においては、電子格子相互作用が支配する特性の第一原理解析は重要な役割を担う。当該系では「層内を支配する共有性結合と層間の非共有性結合との混在」、「低次元化された電子伝導による電子相関増強」という二重苦が密度汎関数法を中心とした従前解析法の急所を突く形となり、十分な予見信頼性は達成されない。一方、第一原理量子モンテカルロ法は原理的に、この問題に最も適した手法と目されてきたが、フォースなどエネルギー微分量算定の実用化が未確立であった。本研究では、自然勾配法などの考慮により新たなブレークスルーを達成しつつある「第一原理量子モンテカルロ法によるフォース算定」を格子振動解析の実用化にまで結実させる事で「層状物質の第一原理電子格子解析における予見信頼性」に革新的な向上をもたらすことを目的として研究を進めている。初年度には「波動関数空間での位相構造を考慮した勾配算定」に着目してフォース算定の実用性を大きく高めるような業績[分担者中野・代表者前園ら、Phys. Rev. B 103, L121110 (2021)]、および、現実系層状物質を対象とした量子モンテカルロ計算[分担者本郷、代表者前園ら、J. Phys. Chem. C (2022)]を確立させた。これら経験を通して、フォース算定の信頼性に大きな影響を与える要因として「擬ポテンシャルにかかる局所近似の問題」が浮き彫りとなり、後半年度中は特に、この問題に傾注して研究を推進した。擬ポテンシャルの非局所型構成の根本に立ち戻り、L2型と呼ばれる新たな方法を提案し、その開発と較正検証に取り組んだ。当該問題に対しての研究コミュニティの長年の取組み経緯の上に十分なインパクトを与えるような良好な結果が得られており、原著論文が出版された[分担者本郷、代表者前園ら、J. Chem. Phys. (2023)]。
