2021 Fiscal Year Research-status Report

Skyrmionic LEGO- entangled skyrmion networks in chiral magnets and liquid crystals

Research Project

Project/Area Number 21K03406
Research InstitutionHiroshima University

Principal Investigator

LEONOV ANDRIY  広島大学, 先進理工系科学研究科(理), 准教授 (30804851)

Project Period (FY) 2021-04-01 – 2024-03-31
Keywordsskyrmion / cone / spiral
Outline of Annual Research Achievements

I overviewed the properties of nonaxisymmetric isolated skyrmions, which arise within a cone phase of cubic helimagnets and chiral liquid crystals.
I introduced a paradigm of facile skyrmionic networks with mutually orthogonal orientations of constituent isolated skyrmions. Moreover, a family of target-skyrmions, which includes a so far overlooked type with a multiple topological charge, was shown to form owing to the tendency to minimize the interaction energy between vertical and horizontal skyrmions. The results have been published in 3 manuscripts.

Current Status of Research Progress
Current Status of Research Progress

2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.

Reason

The project is progressing according to the initial plan. Not only 3 papers have been published so far, but two more papers have been submitted.

Strategy for Future Research Activity

The future work will progress according to the initial plan. The main focus will be on dynamics of discovered new skyrmion varieties.

Causes of Carryover

In the next year, the budget will be used for attending conferences, for bublication fees and for buying personal computers for simulations.
